Social Team - Launching the Torch Throughout Campus

Throughout these past few weeks, our team has worked hard to spread the word on social media about our Launch the Torch campaign. We created a twitter account, using the hashtag #LaunchTheTorch so followers can easily stay up-to-date with our progress. An Instagram has been created to post photos of what we are working on during class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our Facebook page gives audiences a brief overview of Launch The Torch. This platform gives viewers the option to like the page, and become informed on the details and development of our class project. The website will be used to post the group progress reports, and is a pivotal part of our social media strategy; as it allows us to link all of our social media platforms together. These forms of social media are very popular, especially to college students around the FSU campus. We gained followers from the class, posted on Instagram, created our #LaunchTheTorch hashtag on Twitter, and posted once on the blog thus far. Additionally, one of our team members is working on creating a video, to document each team’s progress leading up to the launch.

One of our hardest challenges was creating the actual website. We had to search for a web developer that allowed the team to easily develop a website and disseminate information to our targeted audiences. The social team decided to choose wix.com, as this resource offers a variety of templates, links, and other creative factors, which allowed team members to successfully implement an informative site. One page of this website is dedicated to the class blogs. These blogs will be utilized as a forum where the class and Dr. Marty can post their thoughts and progress for their respective tasks. Another challenge the social team overcame was making a graphic that would promote our project and symbolize our campaign. Gaining followers and spreading the word has also been somewhat challenging. There is difficulty in gaining followers quickly when our social media accounts are just starting up. However, with help from the class, we hope to have many more followers and make our social media accounts gain popularity and interest. Lastly, we brainstormed to come up with a hashtag that audiences would search and learn all about #LaunchTheTorch.

Our next steps are working towards further spreading Launch the Torch via our social media accounts, website and blogs. Furthermore, we want to have a myriad of people involved and excited for our launch party. We hope to gain many more followers and spark interest in our blog posts, Instagram pictures, Twitter hashtags and so forth. We plan to contact Snapchat with our design of a Launch the Torch Snapchat filter to be available during the week of the launch. This would allow FSU students to “snap a selfie” and include our own torch graphic in the picture. Students around campus would be promoting our Launch the Torch campaign with a Snapchat geofilter, along with our other social media platforms. Another aspect of Snapchat we are looking into is being featured on the FSU campus story. This campus story is viewed by at least eight thousand FSU students, and this would greatly increase the awareness of Launch the Torch throughout campus. We could get the students hyped for the launch, and make our Launch the Torch campaign as successful as possible!
